How to Use the TSC Pension Calculator

Our tool is designed for accuracy and ease of use. To get your estimate, follow these steps:

  1. Enter Your Basic Salary: This is your monthly pay before allowances (like house or commuter allowance).
  2. Input Years in Service: Enter the total number of years you expect to have worked by the time you hit age 60.
  3. View Your Results: The tool will instantly show your Total Accrued Fund, your 1/3 Lump Sum (Gratuity), and an estimate of your Monthly Pension.

Understanding the PSSS (The New Contributory Scheme)

Since 2021, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) moved all teachers under the age of 45 into a contributory scheme. Here is how the math works in 2026:

  • Your Contribution: 7.5% of your basic salary.
  • TSC/Government Contribution: 15% of your basic salary.
  • Compound Interest: Your money is invested in government bonds and stable assets, growing every year.

The "1/3 Rule" and Your Gratuity

When you reach the mandatory retirement age of 60, you are entitled to access your funds. Under Kenyan law, you can choose to take a tax-free lump sum of up to 33.3% (one-third) of your total saved pot.

Many teachers use this lump sum to:

  • Clear outstanding SACCO or bank loans.
  • Complete a retirement home in the village.
  • Start a small business, like a retail shop or a cyber cafe.

The remaining two-thirds (2/3) of the fund is used to pay you a monthly "salary" for the rest of your life.
