How to File KRA Nil Returns
1. Log in to iTax
First, visit the official KRA iTax Portal.
- Enter your KRA PIN and click Continue.
- Type in your Password.
- Solve the simple Arithmetic sum (Security Stamp) provided.
- Click Login.
Tip: If you forgot your password, click “Forgot Password” to receive a reset link in your registered email.
2. Navigate to Nil Returns
Once you are on the dashboard, look at the top menu bar.
- Hover your cursor over the Returns tab.
- Select File Nil Return from the drop-down menu.
3. Select Tax Obligation
You will be directed to the “Nil e-Return” page.
- Type: This is pre-filled as ‘Self’.
- Taxpayer PIN: This will automatically show your PIN.
- Tax Obligation: Select Income Tax – Resident Individual from the list.
- Click Next.
4. Fill in the Return Period
The system will now ask for the dates you are filing for.
- For the current 2026 filing season, the period is 01/01/2025 to 31/12/2025.
- In most cases, these dates will auto-populate if your previous returns are up to date.
- Click Submit.
5. Download Your Receipt
A pop-up message will ask you to confirm that you want to file a Nil return.
- Click OK.
- A “Return Submission” page will appear with a link to Download Acknowledgement Receipt.
- Keep this receipt. It is your only proof that you filed your returns.
