  • Enter Account Number: Your National ID Number.
  • Enter the Amount (Minimum is Ksh 300, unless your means-test result was higher).
  • Enter your M-Pesa PIN and confirm.

Note: You will receive two confirmation messages—one from M-Pesa and another from SHA/Afya Yangu.

2. Using USSD Code (No Internet Required)

If you don’t have a smartphone or data, you can pay using this shortcode:

  • Dial *147#.

    1. Kenyan Citizen, 2. Foreign Resident and 3. Refugee
  • Enter your ID Number.
  • Choose whether you are paying for “Self” or “Others.”
  • Enter the Amount you wish to pay.
  • Follow the prompts to authorize the M-Pesa transaction on your phone.

3. SHA Auto-Deductions (M-Pesa Ratiba)

To avoid forgetting your monthly deadline, you can set up a standing order using M-Pesa Ratiba.

  • Open the M-Pesa App or dial *334#.
  • Select M-Pesa Ratiba.
  • Set up a recurring payment to Paybill 200222.
  • This will automatically deduct your contribution every month without requiring you to manually enter details.

4. For Salaried Employees

If you are formally employed, you do not need to pay manually.

  • Your employer is legally required to deduct 2.75% of your gross salary.
  • This amount is remitted directly to SHA by the 9th of every month.
  • Always check your payslip to ensure the “SHA” or “SHIF” deduction is active.
